Privacy Policy

learnBenchmark (learnbenchmark.com) is operated by Alton Machen and James Ohr ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect only what the product needs to work, we use privacy-respecting defaults, and we never sell your data.

What we collect

Account data. Your email address and, if you set one, a password (stored only as a cryptographic hash by our authentication provider — we never see or store the password itself). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture URL from Google; we never receive your Google password. If you arrived through a referral link, we record a short referral tag with your signup.

Learning activity.Your practice answers, skill progress, test results, and any question reports you submit, with timestamps. This is the product — it's how your progress is saved and shown back to you.

Technical data. Standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) are processed transiently by our infrastructure providers for security and rate limiting. With your consent, Google Analytics collects aggregated usage data (see Analytics below).

We do not ask for your real name, physical address, or payment information — learnBenchmark is free.

How we use it

To run the service: authenticate you, save and display your progress, grade your practice and tests, and send transactional email (confirmation and password-reset links). We also use aggregated analytics to understand which topics and features are used, so we can improve the content. We do not sell personal data, we do not show ads, and we do not send marketing email.

Cookies and analytics

Essential authentication cookies keep you signed in. Google Analytics (GA4) runs only after you accept the consent banner — until then, analytics storage is denied by default via Google Consent Mode v2 and no analytics cookies are set. Analytics data is retained for 14 months. Details, including how to withdraw consent, are in our Cookie Policy.

Signing in with Google

We use Supabase to handle sign-ins, so Google's consent screen shows Supabase's address rather than ours. learnBenchmark is free, and we haven't paid for the add-on that would replace it with a learnbenchmark.com address. Google never shares your password with us — we receive only your name, email address, and profile picture URL.

If you already have a learnBenchmark account with the same email address, signing in with Google is normally connected to that existing account rather than creating a second one, so your progress stays where it is. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Who processes your data

We use a small set of service providers to run learnBenchmark, each processing data on our behalf: Supabase (database and authentication, hosted on AWS in the United States), Vercel (website hosting), Resend (transactional email delivery), and Google (analytics, only after consent; and sign-in, only if you choose it). Your data lives in the United States.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account data and learning activity for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account yourself from the Settings page: deletion takes effect after a 3-day grace period, during which signing back in cancels it. Once the grace period passes, your account and all associated data are permanently deleted. You can also request deletion by emailing info@learnbenchmark.com from your registered address. Analytics data expires automatically after 14 months.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or have it deleted at any time by emailing info@learnbenchmark.com. We honor these requests for everyone, regardless of where you live.

Age requirement

learnBenchmark is for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16; if you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed, and database access is restricted with row-level security so accounts can only read their own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we follow current best practices.
